Let's Do Our Part - Water Conservation

One of many things that MARKET's owner Jenn is passionate about is preserving our environment. With epic droughts and raging wildfires impacting large sections of the US this summer, we can all stand to adopt a few simple ways to help conserve water. Here are 10 easy tips:
1. Use the washing machine only for full loads.
2. Invest in water saving washing machines and dishwashers.
3. Install aerators on the kitchen faucet to reduce flows to less than 1 gallon per minute.

4. Installing low-flow shower heads saves about 2.5 gallons/day.
5. Taking five minute showers instead of 10 minute showers saves 12.5 gallons with a low flow showerhead, 25 gallons with a standard 5.0 gallon per minute showerhead.
6. Don't use the toilet as a wastebasket.
7. Turning off water when brushing teeth or shaving saves approximately 10 gallons/day.
8. Water your lawn early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler. This saves 25 gallons/each time you water.
9. Choose a water-efficient irrigation system such as drip irrigation for your trees, shrubs, and flowers.
10. Put a layer of mulch around trees and plants to reduce evaporation and keep the soil cool. Organic mulch also improves the soil and prevents weeds. This saves 20-30 gallons/each time you water/1,000 sq. ft.
