As you probably know, here at MARKET we love a good polka dot. So it makes sense that we're fascinated by the playfulness and whimsy of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama's exhibition Look Now, See Forever at the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia.
Kusama has practiced art in a wide variety of media for more than sixty years. She remains one of the most significant and influential artists working today, inspiring generations of contemporary artists, as well as fashion designers like Marc Jacobs.
The interactive piece titled obliteration room 2011 (above) recreates a common domestic environment in all white, transforming the space into a blank canvas. Thousands of museum patrons participate as artistic contributors and apply multi colored dots to the space. The gradual result over time is a completely deconstructed, redefined environment.
